The first phase of the Rs 864-crore outer ring road (ORR) on the outskirts of Chennai is expected to commence by February 2010. The project will be developed in public-private partnership.
Tamil Nadu Road Development Company (TNRDC) managing director Sunil Paliwal said under Phase I, around 30 km, of the total 62.30 km, of road network will be developed. This would connect National Highways 45, 4 and 205. TNRDC will be the managing associate for the project.
Paliwal said 70 per cent of the land acquisition was complete for the Phase I project, which would be implemented on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer basis. The concession period is 20 years, including construction period of 30 months.
According to him, the government would soon issue Letter of Award and the project is expected to complete by August 2012.
The Tamil Nadu government would provide the project support fund of Rs 300 crore, to be paid during the construction period based on progress of the work.
