Plan for industrial estate at Kashipur hits roadblock

The plan to develop a new industrial estate for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) on 530 acres of land at the Escorts Farms area in the industrial town of Kashipur in Uttarakhand has hit a roadblock.
The State Infrastructure and Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand Ltd (SIDCUL) wants to develop a new industrial estate for thrust sectors at Kashipur, while the government is of the view that some 200 acres can be used for setting up a campus for the Indian Institute of Management (IIM). However the government has not yet taken any decision in this regard.
“There are no clear guidelines as far as the development of a new industrial estate at Kashipur is concerned. Even on the proposal for an IIM, we have not received any intimation,” said an official.
SIDCUL, which has already developed the Pantnagar and Haridwar industrial estates, put up the proposal for an industrial estate at Escorts Farms before its board last year. The board in turn deferred the proposal and instead set up a high-powered committee headed by an additional chief secretary to go into various aspects of the industrial estate.
