Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate a terminal for supply of crude oil at Cairn India's Mangala oilfield at Barmer in Rajasthan tomorrow, a company spokesman said here today.
The Mangla field, the second-largest oil discovery in India in two decades, will be a giant step towards curtailment of country's oil import bill, the spokesman said.
With a beginning of 30,000 barrels capacity per day (bpd), the oil major plans to add another 1,00,000 bpd over the next 18 months and finally reach the target of producing 1,75,000 bpd.
The oil major is expected to hold costs at about $5 per barrel for crude oil produced from its Rajasthan field, according to the spokesman.
The project would contribute more than 20 per cent of India's domestic crude oil production by 2011.
The Prime Minister's one day itinerary to Barmer includes his visit to a NREGA camp to overview labourers' work, and a woman self-help groups at Ramsar village, 20 km from Barmer, according to an official spokesman here.
PM will also be viewing the 'Harit Rajasthan', a green plantation project being undertaken massively by the Gehlot government to revive water table in the state.
