As soon as question hour was over PMC legislator V K Ganapathy (from Karaikal) drew the attention of the House to the arrest of some workers of Jayaprakash Narayan cooperative spinning mill in Karaikal yesterday and their 10 day remand.
The workers launched an agitation for their demands, including hike in wages and also a wage structure on a par with the one followed in SPINCO (a cooperative spinning mill) here.
He alleged that there was a raw deal generally for Karaikal in all matters, landing workers and the public in difficulties there. He and his party colleagues then staged a walkout.
K Lakshminarayanan, PMC legislature party leader, said the government was not furnishing any reply to any issues members had tabled on matters of public importance. Hence the walkout.
The lone MDMK member P R Siva (elected from Karaikal region) also staged a walkout protesting against lack of any initiative on the part of the government to end the grievances of workers. All of them however returned to the house later.
A few minutes later all the three legislators of the opposition AIADMK (A Anbalagan, Ohm Sakthi Segar and M V Omalingam) also staged a walkout as soon as the Speaker R Radhakrishnan announced that leave was not granted to the adjournment motion.
Anbalagan had sought to table a motion to discuss an issue over which Chief Minister N Rangasamy had already given the reply. Radhakrishnan said it was not permitted. Anbalagan said he had only sought to raise the general law and order situation. He and his party colleagues then staged walkout to protest the speaker’s negative stand.
