PMK today sought to know from DMK chief M Karunanidhi whether he would sever ties with the UPA and Congress if the Manmohan Singh Government did not snap diplomatic relations with Colombo and the "attack on Tamils" in Sri Lanka as demanded by him.
"This was what we (PMK) have been demanding for the last six months... Snapping ties with Sri Lanka in view of the continuous war against innocent Tamils there," PMK founder leader Dr S Ramadoss told a press conference here.
He was reacting to the telegrams sent by Karunanidhi yesterday to the Prime Minister and others asking the UPA Government to snap 'all diplomatic relations' with Sri Lanka if it did not honour India's latest appeal for a ceasefire.
"What Karunanidhi is going to do?" in view of External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee ruling out Indian mediation in Sri Lanka, Ramadoss asked.
Besides, the "tone of Mukherjee's appeal" asking LTTE to release civilians under its control, seemed to echo the voice of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Ramadoss alleged.
On Karunanidhi's claim that DMK had lost power twice on the Sri Lankan issue, Ramadoss said in 1976 the DMK Government was dismissed "on corruption issue as reported in all sections of the press and in 1991", it was 'political reason.' LTTE was also one of the reasons, Ramadoss added.
Karunanidhi had yesterday sought to know why the PMK leader had allowed his son Dr Anbumani Ramadoss to continue as union health minister for four years when he had not raised this issue in any union cabinet meet.
