| In what Punjab National Bank in Gujarat has planned to complete its centralised banking solutions (CBS) 100 per cent by June 2006. Currently, around 75 per cent of the branches and 88 per cent of business is already covered under CBS available at 27 major cities and towns of the state.

| Bank's CBS facility has so far been implemented in 1,827 service outlets covering 458 centres across the country.

| "Total business covered under CBS stands at 72 per cent with more than 80,000 users of the bank's retail and corporate internet banking services," said S C Gupta, CMD of PNB during his visit to Ahmedabad.

| Gupta said that the bank has computerised all its branches capturing 100 per cent of total business and 604 ATMs have already been installed.

| Talking about expansions in Gujarat, Gupta said bank has started 8am to 8pm service at selected branches in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot and centralised back office functions have also been started in these centres.

| "Currently, we have around 85 branches and 22 ATMs in the state. Sooner we will also launch seven new branches in the state with CBS facility including two in Kutch," said Gupta.

| He further said that the bank has opened a branch, by saying, "Recently we started our 'Mahila Branch' in Bodakdev which has only women employees."

| In retail lending, PNB has a target to finance Rs 100 crore in the current financial year 2005-06. "Till now we have already financed Rs 84 crore and we hope that till March 2006 we would exceed our target," said Gupta.

| He also said that bank's outstanding retail advances grew by 35.9 per cent to touch Rs 14,229 crore at the end of Decmeber 2005 compared to Rs 10,469 crore at previous year.

| Talking about other banking sectors, Gupta said that bank in agriculture sector amounted to Rs 13,031 crore registering a growth of 25.6 per cent on year to year basis. In SSI sector, it grew 26.9 per cent to Rs 7,724 crore, he informed.

| He also said that PNB has received approval of RBI for opening offices and subsidiaries in UK, Canada, Hong Kong and Singapore.

| "PNB was first a nationalised bank which had opened a full fledged branch in Kabul and it is earning profits from the very first year of operation," claimed Gupta. |
