Since the Centre has provided just nine companies instead of the 50 sought, central forces will be deployed in 144 of the 271 super sensitive booths for the May 30 Kolkata Municipal polls here, a senior police official said today. “We had asked for 50 companies of central forces, but are getting only nine. So, they will be mainly deployed in super sensitive booths," Joint Commissioner of Police (Hqs), Jawed Shamim said.
Among the 2655 booths in 792 premises 271 have been declared super sensitive. Central forces will be deployed in 144 booths, Shamim said.
In the 144 booths there will be an officer, three policemen, a sub-inspector, an ASI, two rifleman and two constables of the Kolkata police. In the remaining 127 super sensitive booths, where central forces could not be deployed, there would be four riflemen, a sub-inspector, an ASI and two constables, he said. There would be 200 police pickets, 83 patrols and seven mobile teams besides mobile services of police stations. Besides the central forces, there would be 16,000 policemen on duty, Shamim said.
Apart form five divisional deputy commissioners, every three police stations would be under a deputy commissioner assisted by an assistant commissioner, he said.
The Commissioner of Kolkata Police Goutam Mohan Chakraborty held a meeting with all divisional deputy commisioners of the metropolis to give final touches to the police arrangements for the civic elections.
