With the conclusion of Lok Sabha polls, unscheduled power cuts are back at many places in Punjab and Haryana. Power cuts ranging between 2 hours and 6 hours are being experienced by the residents in both urban and rural areas of the two neighbouring states.
Before the Lok Sabha elections, people virtually enjoyed uninterrupted power supply. In Punjab, the places where cuts are back include Amritsar (3-5 hours cut), Ferozepur (7-hour cut), Hoshiarpur (2 hours), Gurdaspur (6 hours). However, power supply was still better in the industrial town of Ludhiana and Patiala, residents said.
Likewise in Haryana, unscheduled power cuts ranging between 2 hours and 7 hours had started. In Ambala, there were power cuts for 4-6 hours, up to eight hours in Bhiwani, 1-2 hours in Rohtak, 2-4 hours in Jind, 1-2 hours in Gurgaon and 3-4 hours in Karnal.
However, power officials of the two states maintain that cuts have nothing to do with elections. Power cuts have been imposed at some places as the demand in the agriculture sector had gone up, they said.
