Pratibha Inds to foray into tunnelling projects
Chandan Kishore Kant / Mumbai June 16, 2006
Pratibha Industries, Mumbai-based infrastructure company, is all set to enter tunnelling projects.

The company has entered into a joint venture with an Austrian company Ostu-Stettin for this purpose.

"It is a new sector for us. We will use Ostu-Stettin's expertise for the projects in the country," said Ajit B Kulkarni, managing director, Pratibha Group.

Kulkarni added it is an exclusive joint venture for India. Ostu-Stettin is one of the leading infrastructure companies in tunnelling technologies. With the infrastructure boom in the country the sector is full of opportunities, he added.

The company is also setting up a spiral-welded facility at Wada in Maharashtra with an investment of Rs 35 crore. "The plant is under construction and it will start commercial production by March 2007," said Kulkarni.

The capacity of the plant is 36,000 tonne per annum. The company hopes that the new facility will boost its turnover. "We are expecting an annual turnover of Rs 175 crore from this plant alone," said Kulkarni.

At present, Pratibha Industries whose core strength lies in the water related infrastructure projects has a presence in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Delhi. However, it is aggressively looking to expand its area of operations.

"Soon we are going for tenders in states such as Rajasthan, Kashmir, Bihar and Kerala," he said.

With a book order value of Rs 700 crore, the company expects to reach a turnover of Rs 350 crore in the current fiscal against Rs 175 crore in the last fiscal.

All the in-hand projects will be completed by 2008. The in hand projects include water projects of laying 42 km pipeline in Navi Mumbai, two pipe line projects in Delhi and an internal road project in Indore.
