Price-less
BSM Team / New Delhi May 01, 2010, 01:54 IST

I need to choose between the Tata Indigo CS eGLX BSIV and the Mahindra Logan 1.4 GLX. The Indigo CS has an elegant look, both externally and internally. But the recent news on the slashed prices of the Logan has tempted me over the Indigo CS. Which one should I go for?

Ganesh Ghatte, via email

The Logan may not be as good-looking inside-out as the Indigo CS, but it is indeed an excellent car. It is rugged and can take a fair degree of abuse. The suspension allows for a good ride, there is plenty of space inside and it has a big boot too.

Besides it is pretty fuel efficient as well. If you are okay with the Logan's design, then there is nothing stopping you from going for it.

Student's movement

I'm a college student in Kolkata. My father is going to buy me a car and I'm looking at a premium hatchback. I'm contemplating between the Hyundai i20, VW Polo and the Honda Jazz. I want a car that's fun to drive, has decent mileage, comfortable legroom, great acceleration and well-designed, functional interiors with a nice and loud music system. I don't mind a diesel or a petrol - either one is fine with me. Should I also look at a sedan (like the Honda City) or should I wait for a new car to be launched?

Chirag Jain, Kolkata

Among the three hatchbacks you have shortlisted, the i20 1.4 diesel with the six-speed manual gearbox fits your requirements best. Alternatively, if you can hold on for a month or so, Volkswagen will be introducing the Polo with a 1.6-litre engine — that would make it a great fun to drive car. If you don't mind shelling out the extra money, the City is a great buy. The performance from its engine is brilliant, it is a fun car to pilot, offers decent mileage and has good interiors too.

Back in action

I have a budget of Rs 10 lakh and am interested in buying a car with an automatic gearbox. The car can run on either diesel or petrol, but it should have a very good suspension since I have a back problem. My daily commute is about 60 km. I currently use a Ford Fiesta and am very happy with the suspension. Which car do you recommend?

Khurshed N Balsara, Mumbai

Within your budget, you have the choice of the Hyundai Verna diesel automatic and the Maruti Suzuki SX4 automatic. You may not find the Verna's suspension as good as the Fiesta's, while the SX4 suspension setup has been revised to make the ride better. However, we recommend you go on a test-drive and satisfy yourself with regards to the ride quality before you take a decision. The other option is to look out for a sparingly used last-gen Toyota Corolla automatic — it will also fall within your budget and fits your requirements well.
