Decrying the 'slanderous' campaign by wind energy major Suzlon, leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly Pandurang Phundkar today moved a privilege motion against the company in the Legislative Council.
"Suzlon published newspaper advertisements today, involving celebrities like Aishwarya Rai, following a probe ordered by the Government into the project land deals in tribal Dhule and Nandurbar districts," Phundkar said moving the motion.
The company is setting up wind energy units in the area.
Phundkar said the advertisement, which sought to clarify the company's position on the land deal controversy, insulted the House and its members.
"Debates of various important issues pertaining to the state take place in this House. The company has got it wrong and insulted the House and its members," Phundkar said.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshwardhan Patil said "this is a serious matter and the company has shown lack of confidence in the House".
Chairman Shivajirao Deshmukh said the matter is being referred to the House privileges committee.
"The content of the advertisement shows disrespect for the House and its members," he said.
