Punjab Assembly adjourns after passing Vote on Account

Punjab Assembly adjourned sine die today after passing the Vote on Account for the next three months in the absence of Opposition Congress which walked out during the zero hour expressing dissatisfaction over the reply of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on river water issue and registration of case in the alleged Ludhiana City Centre scam.
The House before adjourning sine die after the first session following the recent constitution the 13th state Assembly which brought in the SAD-BJP alliance to power also passed supplementary estimates of Rs 2,761.24 crore for the current financial year.
The Vote on Account of Rs 6,945.53 crore for first three months of coming financial year 2007-08 was passed since the Parkash Singh Badal led government had taken power only about a month ago.
The Budget for the next financial year would be presented in June, Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal told the House moving the Vote on Account.
The Finance Minister said that the alliance government is committed for the welfare of all sections of the society, particularly the downtrodden people and will work for the progress of trade and industry and farm sector and integrated over-all development of the state to put Punjab back on the high growth trajectory.
The Finance Minister said fiscal situation of the state continued to be grim for the last few years and the mounting outstanding debt, which is reaching Rs 53,000 crore at the end of the current fiscal year, is highly unsustainable.
