| According to company officials, Quantum expects major demand for such equipment when the compulsory hallmarking rule comes into effect on January 1, 2008.

| As per a Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) notification, Indian jewellery has to be hallmarked mandatorily in four metro cities from January 2008. More hallmarking centres are expected to come up in the next couple of years as the new rule comes in to effect, Quantum officials said.

| While the Karatmeter has been designed and developed under German technology for determination of purity of gold in various precious alloys and jewellery in a few seconds without destroying the sample, the Jewel Mark Laser Marker with diode-pumped solid state (DPSS) European technology is considered a unique tool for marking of logo, purity, manufacturing details on various jewellery.
