Music maestro A R Rahman, who has become the toast of the nation by bagging two Academy Awards, will be conferred honorary degree of Doctor of Letters by Aligarh Muslim University.
"AMU has decided to confer D. Litt (Honoris Causa) degree on Indian music maestro A R Rahman," a University statement said.
Apart from 43-year-old Rahman, who became the first Indian to win two Oscars on Monday for his music in "Slumdog Millionaire", industrialist Ratan Tata and M S Swaminathan, father of India's green revolution, are among the eminent people chosen for the honour at the annual convocation to be held here on April 25.
The university's executive council has also decided to confer the honorary degree on noted Urdu writer Gopichand Narang, former President of Sahitya Academy.
