Rahul Bhatt a witness in case against Headley: Police
Press Trust of India / Mumbai Nov 18, 2009, 12:57 IST

Bollywood film maker Mahesh Bhatt's son Rahul is a witness in the case relating to terror charge probe against American national David Headley, a top police official said.

"Let the investigation be done. At the moment, Rahul Bhatt is a witness. The investigation is going on", Joint Commissioner of Police Rakesh Maria said.

Rahul picked up an acquaintance with Headley, accused of plotting terror attacks in the US and India, when the American citizen had visited Mumbai between 2006 and 2009.

Meanwhile, gymn instructor Vilas Warak, through whom Rahul had come in contact with Headley, said, "I have done a great service to the nation by going to Maria and telling him everything that I knew about Headley. He was a nice guy and now I find that he was not a genuine friend....I never went to meet Headley, he came to me".

Warak, who has now lost his job at the gym, said that when he reported for work, the gym's manager told me to go away and lie low till the matter is sorted out. "I have lost everything".

Vilas said, "I happened to see news about Headley's terror links on TV and was shocked. I informed Rahul about it and we subsequently told Mumbai police crime branch about our interaction with Headley".

"Headley was a nice talker and a go-getter who called me his guru and a younger brother," the fitness instructor said.

Vilas said he lost his job in the gym due to the "sensitive" nature of the matter involving investigations in the Headley case. "I was sacked from the place where I have worked for eight years..And now nobody seems to care..I went to the police as a responsible Indian citizen and did whatever I could do," Vilas added.

However, Pritish Nandy, owner of Moksha gym, said, "As far as I know and have been informed, no one has been sacked. We don't sack people unless there is a clear evidence of wrongdoing".
