| The Railway Board nominated committee to identify non-congested sidings and stations for loading of iron ore is expected to submit its report next month.
| |
| "The six-member committee, comprising senior officials of the Railway Board, South-Eastern Railway(SER) and East Coast Railway(ECoR) has already resumed study for non-congested sidings and stations where iron ore can be loaded. This committee is likely to submit the report to the Union Railway Board by the end of next month", an SER spokesperson told Business Standard.
| |
| The process of selection of new sidings and the allotment of rakes for the new sidings will be done by the Railway Board after due consideration of the committee's report.
| |
| The committee was constituted in October this year in the wake of new guidelines issued by the Railway board for loading of iron ore with the objective of broadbasing the loading points so as to improve the availability of iron ore.
| |
| The guidelines were framed keeping in mind in view the present situation where the number of applications seeking allotment of rakes far exceeds the capacity to load and unload, particularly in areas under the jurisdiction of the two major iron ore handling zonal railways- SER and ECoR.
| |
| South-Eastern Railway handled 36.3 million ton of iron ore in 2006-07 and 42.7 million ton during April-October this year.
| |
| For ECoR, the iron ore throughput for 2006-07 was 11 million ton which is expected to grow to around 17 million ton by the end of this fiscal.
| |
| There are six identified congested sidings, five in Dongaposi area and one in Barsua area of the Chakradharpur division of SER.
| |
| The six congested sidings identified are Deojhar, Banspani, Barbil, Jaruli, Barjamda and Barsua. |
