| Indian Railways loaded 7.6 per cent more freight during April-February 2004-05 compared to same period last year. As a result, its revenue from carrying goods went up by 11.09 per cent to Rs 277.24 billion.

| Among various commodities, coal earned maximum revenue of Rs 117.94 billion in coal, by transporting 244.55 million tonnes.

| It earned another 13.68 billion rupees, carrying 13.33 million tonnes of finished iron and steel, 22.32 billion rupees by transporting 48.79 million tonnes of cement, and 28.56 billion rupees carrying 41.72 million tonnes of food grains, the release said.

| In the next fiscal, 2005-06, the railways targets freight traffic of 635 million tonnes, up 5.8% from the revised target of 600 million tonnes for this year on the back of a buoyant economy. |
