| The Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), formed by the railway ministry to commercially develop around 44,000 hectares of land owned by them across the country, has finalised 10 locations which would be offered for bidding to the private sector by the end of this month.

| |
| However, despite all the hoopla amongst real estate developers that it would put expensive commercial land in the heart of Mumbai and Delhi on the block, the locations chosen might not catch their fancy.
|
| |
| Except for the Sarai Rohilla railway station in Delhi and land in Bangalore, the rest of the locations are all in smaller cities. Of the shortlisted locations, one is near Sarai Rohilla railway station in New Delhi and two in Sealdah and one each in Kanchrapara and Belgharia in West Bengal. Others are in Bangalore, Visakhapatnam, Gwalior and Kanpur.

| The Railways had hired IL&FS, a consultant which has submitted its feasibility report on these locations. Based on this report, these locations would be put for bidding.
|
| |
| A senior RLDA official said that IL&FS has submitted its feasibility report on all the 10 locations. Though refusing to divulge the actual value of these locations suggested by the consultant, the official said that based on the suggestions made in the report, RLDA would be using these locations for developing townships, colonies and shopping complexes.
|
| |
| Apart from this IL&FS would be preparing the bid documents and finalising the terms and conditions for the players who wish to participate in the bidding process.
|
| |
| The commercial usage of these sites has been suggested by the consultant in its report according to their geographical locations, the official said.
|
| |
| In fact, RLDA has also released a second list of 14 sites, which has been suggested to it by the ministry for bidding. The ministry inspected these sites and found them fit for commercial development. The ministry is in the process of finalising consultants for preparing the feasibility reports for these locations. |
