Raju being treated for heart attack
BS Reporter / Hyderabad Sep 09, 2009, 13:20 IST

Satyam Computer Services founder B Ramalinga Raju, admitted to Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad following complaint of chest pain, is now being treated for heart attack.

He was brought to the hospital on Monday evening and a battery of tests have been conducted on him. The test reports which came yesterday night indicated that Raju suffered a heart attack, according to NIMS resident medical officer (RMO) Chandrasekhar.

The copies of the reports have been sent to the Chanchalguda Central Jail, the custodians of Raju now. Raju was imprisoned since January 9, this year after he confessed to a massive accounting fraud at Satyam.

Raju is being treated at the intensive coronary care unit of the hospital. A panel of doctors is monitoring Raju's health. "Whether an operation is needed or not would be a decided by a team of doctors who are attending on Raju,'' the RMO said adding that he has been given all the drugs that a cardiac patient needs.

Doctors said Raju, who is suffering from Hepatitis C, has his liver enzymes elevated. The treatment for Hepatitis C is most often associated with some side-effects and time consuming.

Raju would have to stay at the hospital for a few more days for other tests, the RMO said.

Raju's counsel S Bharath Kumar, too, had earlier said that Raju suffered a heart attack. It would take some time get a clear picture of Raju's medical condition, he said denying reports of efforts being made to approach the High Court seeking treatment for Raju in a corporate hospital.
