The Sensex is now up 51 points at 14,550.
Reliance Energy has soared 4% to Rs 583, and NTPC has surged nearly 2% to Rs 153.
SBI has rallied 2% to Rs 1,475. Hindalco has moved up 1.7% to Rs 170.
Reliance Communications, HLL, HDFC Bank and Bharti Airtel are the other major gainers.
Gujarat Ambuja, Reliance and Maruti have slipped over 1% each to Rs 118, Rs 1,714 and Rs 754, respectively.
Out of 2,269 stocks traded so far, 1,333 have advanced, 863 have declined and 73 are unchanged.
