RCom, Polycom to offer wireless video conferencing
Press Trust of India / New Delhi Mar 17, 2010, 18:38 IST

Telecom major Reliance Communications today said it has joined hands with Polycom for offering wireless video conferencing services in the country.

Using telepresence services firm Polycom's video conferencing system and Reliance's wireless broadband data card, the service significantly lowers the price barrier to adopt video conferencing, RCom said in a statement.

The service, marketed through Reliance ADA Group's retail arm Reliance Webstore, will be commercially rolled out in over 40 Indian cities and expanded in a phased manner, it added.

Reliance Webstore already offers wired video conferencing services to over 1,500 corporate clients through over 200 video conference suites at Reliance World stores across India.

Apart from small and medium enterprises, education, event management, media and entertainment and hospitality are among the sectors likely to take advantage of this service, it said.

"Through our alliance with Polycom, we are making video conferencing a simple plug-and-play operation that can be deployed and used virtually anytime, anywhere," Reliance Webstore Director and CEO Sarup Chowdhary said.

The solution will be offered at a price point below Rs two lakh. A connectivity plan of about Rs 1,500 per month, covering 10 GB of usage in a month, would be offered with additional usage being charged at 50 paise per MB.
