Reliance World commences roll-out of Coolpad dual-mode smartphones
Unveils Coolpad 2938
Announcement / Corporate Oct 13, 2009, 21:18 IST

Reliance Webstore and Coolpad Communications, today, commenced the market roll-out of Coolpad smartphones in Karnataka with the launch of Coolpad 2938 dual-mode smartphone. Reliance Webstore Limited, the retail venture of Reliance ADA Group, will retail Coolpad branded dual-mode smartphones in over 100 Reliance World & Reliance Mobile Stores across the state of Karnataka. The dual-mode smartphones will leverage Reliance's nationwide presence in both CDMA & GSM services. The Coolpad 2938 dual mode smartphone was unveiled in Bangalore today.

The market roll-out of Coolpad brand in Karnataka is part of the strategic agreement signed between Reliance Webstore and Coolpad Communications. This marks Coolpad’s foray into the Indian smartphone market. It also marks the diversification of Reliance Webstore into open market handset retailing business.

Commenting on the market roll-out, Mr Seshadri Ramaswami, Circle Head – Karnataka, Reliance Webstore Limited said, “Karnataka has earned its reputation as a technology hub and people here are quick to adopt new technologies. The Coolpad dual-mode smartphones offer the best of both worlds--CDMA & GSM—in the same handset, and we are certain that these phones will dial their way into the hearts of consumers in Karnataka.”

Coolpad’s Managing Director, Mr Sami Al-Lawati said, “Our partnership with Reliance Webstore Limited will help us access end-consumers in Karnataka, enabling Coolpad to drive product development in line with specific customer needs.”

As part of its current market roll-out, Coolpad is rolling out two more Coolpad smartphones. Over the next three months, the company plans to launch four new Coolpad handsets in Karnataka.

Coolpad & Reliance World will roll-out smartphones at disruptive price-points. Besides being a high value proposition, such disruptive pricing strategy will enable Coolpad get an instant foothold in the high growth smartphone market as well as enable the company to escalate mass adoption of smartphones in Karnataka. Reliance Webstore expects Coolpad smartphones to contribute over 30% of its overall handset sales in Karnataka.

The Coolpad 2938 dual-mode touchscreen smartphone supports both CDMA and GSM connections, with two neatly labelled SIM card slots. The GSM SIM is tri-band, while for CDMA it supports 800 MHz. There are separate calling keys for GSM and CDMA. It allows selection of the preferred network (GSM or CDMA) and the option to make both networks to function simultaneously.

The touchscreen has enhanced response capabilities and supports handwriting recognition along with the traditional onscreen keyboard for typing messages. A tap on the homescreen takes users to the menu. All received and sent SMSes are saved automatically with ‘c’ or ‘g’ prefixes for differentiating between CDMA and GSM.

The Coolpad 2938 offers a good mix of entertainment and business applications coupled with a 2.0-megapixel camera, the option of self-timer, continuous shots, special effects and adjusting contrast and brightness.  It also has FM radio and a music player that supports MP3 / AAC / AMR / MIDI / MMF / WAV / 3GP file formats. Connectivity options include Bluetooth and GPRS.

The Coolpad 2938 dual-mode smartphone is priced at Rs 10,999 and will be available at Reliance World and Reliance Mobile Stores across Karnataka.
