RIL to invest Rs 500 cr in Reliance Foundation
Press Trust of India / Mumbai Nov 17, 2009, 20:22 IST

Mukesh AmbaniMukesh Ambani-run Reliance Industries (RIL) plans to invest Rs 500 crore to set up a philanthropic entity called Reliance Foundation with plans to scale up its contribution to Rs 1,000 crore.

"We envisage Reliance Foundation to become one of the foremost professional philanthropic organisations in the world. RIL is making an initial contribution of Rs 500 crore and rapidly scale it up to Rs 1,000 crore," RIL's Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani, said here.

More resources will be made available in the coming years as the foundation expands its activities, Ambani said.

In its charter, The Reliance Foundation would address issues like formal and vocational education, affordable high-quality health care, meaningful rural development and urban renewal and protection and promotion of India's heritage of arts and culture.

Over the coming months, the foundation will develop specific programmes and projects that would address some of our most pressing challenges, he said.

Mukesh Ambani Foundation must gift one billion fruit bearing trees (mango trees, tamarind trees, amla trees, jackfruit trees etc.) to the nation. This will ensure food security and environmental protection to the nation. Further, it generates permanent employment to rural people while ensuring development of food processing industry. It also generates lot of revenue to the nation. This proposal has numerous others benefits too. This proposal was sent to Azimji Premji, NR Narayana Murthy and Gujarat CM. Narendra Modi also, but they did not respond. NVSN Murthy, Independent Research Scientist (unaided) A temporary visitor on earth serving original and simple ideas for a common cause.

St. Rose Educational & Charitable Trust runs schools for normal and mentally- and physically-challenged children mostly from middle class and poor families, providing many freeships and concessions. The schools enjoy a good reputation, but their drawback is lack of their own premises. The Trust holds an 80-G (5)Certificate from the IT Department, Surat, which permits a rebate of 50% on donations to the Trust. Will Reliance Foundation be generous enough to help the Trust buy suitable premises for about 250 students? It will be a great blessing, and help the Trust continue to pursue its mission of imparting inclusive, holistic Value Education to deserving children. Kenneth M.
