Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), will set up a new age world-class university in India.
The university will be set up under Reliance Foundation, the new philanthropic initiative of the Reliance Group, and will be modelled on the lines of American universities. RIL will invest Rs 500 crore in the foundation with plans to scale up its contribution to Rs 1,000 crore.
“The university will promote education and research in all disciplines of knowledge — from science and technology to liberal arts. It will also forge partnerships with reputed universities around the world and will be international in scale and in best practices,” Ambani said.
Ambani was speaking at an award function where he was awarded the Dean’s Medal from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Engineering and Applied Science. Ambani has won the recognition for his visionary leadership in the application of engineering and technology for the betterment of mankind, a media release from the university said.
Incidentally, 12 years ago, the Business School of the University of Pennsylvania had honoured Dhirubhai Ambani with the Dean’s Medal.
I wish you would do that. I proposed world class university to Mr Bhende, who told me that he will reach the message to Mr Mukesh Ambani. When Mr Bhende left for heavenly abode. I left the hope. This is a positive news and I wish Mr Ambani is serious. There is high time that India leads the education map of the world, a glory which was lost 1000 years ago. I can definitely contribute. I wish someone would reply.
Dear Sir Mukesh Ambani
Thanks for establishing world class university in Poor country India.
I just want to know that in the university which class of children are going to get admission.
This is a very positive development. However, challenges and context of building world-class universities is very different from corporate projects of even much higher scale and scope. Ingredients of a world-class universities are way beyond financials and requires time and understanding of academic practices world over. Consider the case of Vedanta University, which is nearly two years behind the schedule, despite having all the financial and project management expertise of Vedanta Group. Now a new Foundation in the news - Reliance Foundation to be set up
by the Reliance Industries Limited and the Reliance Foundation will set up a University. Reliance Industries Limited will invest Rs. 500 crore. y only objection to this kind of announcement is this that not even a single naya paisa has been spent and publicity is being given in advance. Why not give publicity after the University has been set up. I recollect a wrld renowned company declaring for setting a Foundation. It got publicity on the front page of all financial dalies. But till the declaration even the trust deed was not drafted. Even the names of trustees were to be decided. But an atmosphere was created as if the said Foundation will remove poverty fromIndia and will raise the standard of living of the people. But till today the foundation has not been set up.
