Chief minister, K Rosaiah, will shortly lay the foundation stone for a coal-based 600 Mw power plant to be set up by Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) at Jaipur village near Mancherial in Adilabad district.
According to an official press release, everything is ready for the launch the Rs ,2700-crore project. Land to an extent of 1,900 acres has been acquired and coal reserves from an abandoned underground mine is tied up.
SCCL chairman and managing director S Narsing Rao was stated to have informed the chief minister that it has have coal reserves of 9,384.33 million tonnes at Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam districts. The turnover of the company in 2008-09 was Rs 6,396 crore. With an employee strength of 70,586, it was the largest coal producer in the south.
