The largest organisation of diabetic professionals in South East Asia, Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India(RSSDI) brings together experts from acoross the globe to discuss some of the raging issues about the ailment in Ahmedabad.
With over 3000 delegates including 250 from abroad, 109 faculty members and 13 foreign scientists would be discussing and debating on the latest methodolgies to cure the silent killer that is responsible for claiming over 4 million lives a year. "This is a far greater threat than occasional attacks of viruses like the H1N1 that causes swineflu", said an expert at the RSSDI annual meet.
India can be easily called the diabetes capital of the world with the largest number of cases reported here. The country currently has nearly 51 million diabetic patients, and that figure may go up to 80 million by 2030. More than 100 research papers will be presented on subjects like stem cell therapies for diabetes.
