Salary offers at IIM-C see 20-50 per cent rise
BS Reporter / Kolkata Mar 09, 2010, 00:54 IST

IIM Calcutta (IIM-C), which extended its final placements process over two weeks last year, is likely to wrap up the process in less than a week this time, with a significant rise in the number of offers each student has received.

This year, the institute has around 280 students for placements. Sources in the institute say salaries have increased by 20 per cent to as much as 50 per cent in some cases. The institute had started off this year with 215 offers in hand.

IIM-C, which started its final placement process on March 6 this year, has seen 110 offers within three days. Nisa Godrej of Godrej Industries was on the campus today and hired students for three profiles — corporate strategy, sales and marketing and for Godrej Sara Lee.

Tata Administrative Services’ (TAS’) Leadership Programme was the biggest recruiter at the campus on the second day of placements. “Around 17 students from IIM-C will experience the cross-functional and cross-sector training, which is unique to TAS, as summer interns and managers,” said Rahul Krishna, head, Tata Administrative Services.

Many firms are still running their processes and usually a large number of offers arrive at the end of Day-2.

The mood on the campus has seen a considerable lift with the placement process running efficiently. More than half the student up for placements this year have obtained ‘dream jobs’, in just two days of the process. Among the remaining students, many already have offers, which were made during the laterals process.

“The memories of last year are fading and the future looks brighter,” said Prafulla Agnihotri, the chairperson of the placement committee at IIM-C.

Hindustan Unilever (HUL) and Procter and Gamble (P&G) made four offers each excluding pre-placement offers (PPOs), with HUL and Nokia making the largest number of offers across all IIMs.

Financial firms continued to dominate the scene in IIM-C, American Express being the biggest recruiter with as many as six offers across diverse profiles like business transformation, international risk management and for American Express Banking Corporation India.

Standard Chartered and HSBC also took forward their hiring spree on the campus with multiple roles and offers to the students.
