Salesforce.com Foundation Launches Programs in India
Announcement / Corporate November 10, 2009, 20:09 IST

The global leader in integrated philanthropy announces expansion to India to support nonprofits through volunteer hours, product donations and discount and small grants.

Salesforce.com, the enterprise cloud computing company, and Salesforce.com Foundation, the global leader in integrating philanthropy and business, today announced the launch of the Salesforce.com Foundation’s programs in India. The mission of Salesforce.com Foundation is to use salesforce.com’s people, technology and relationships to improve communities, inspire youth to be more successful and promote compassionate capitalism.

The Salesforce.com Foundation is an independent nonprofit organization that partners with salesforce.com helping to leverage the resources of the company (people, products and resources) to make a positive impact in the communities in which it operates.  Since 2000, the Salesforce.com Foundation has given over 150,000 volunteer hours of community service, $14 million dollars in grants, and provided discounted and donated products to approximately 7,000 nonprofit organizations in over 70 countries around the world.

Salesforce CRM (customer relationship management) licenses have already been donated to 31 nonprofit organizations (NPOs) in India.  Salesforce CRM helps NPOs keep track of their supporters, volunteers and donors, and increases their capability for managing, tracking and reporting against key program data.

“The launch of the Salesforce.com Foundation is a significant milestone in salesforce.com’s development of its global presence,” said Lindsey Armstrong, executive vice president, international enterprise sales, salesforce.com. “We believe that you cannot be a leader in your industry without being a leader in your community. The Salesforce.com Foundation provides our salesforce.com employees, partners and customers a unique way to actively contribute to the improvement of the communities we operate in.”

A New Technology Model Enables A New Corporate Philanthropy Model
From its inception, the Salesforce.com Foundation has used a unique model of integrated philanthropy.  Its distinctive 1/1/1 model disseminates the financial and intellectual wealth of it’s partner organization, salesforce.com, to those most in need:

  • 1% Equity: using one percent of founding stock to offer grants focused on technology innovation in nonprofits and youth development programs.
  • 1% Product: facilitating the donation and discount of Salesforce CRM licenses to nonprofits helping them to increase their operating effectiveness and focus more resources on their core mission;
  • 1% Time: finding volunteer activities for salesforce.com employees who are awarded 6 paid days of volunteer time from the company to use over the course of a year.

“Salesforce.com Foundation helps nonprofit organizations focus more on their mission and spend less time dealing with technology infrastructure. Salesforce.com’s cloud computing model enables organizations to manage their data in one centralized location – the cloud – without the need to install, manage and maintain software and hardware. All they require is an Internet connection to manage processes such as donor management, volunteer tracking, communications and other critical operations,” said Isabel Kelly, international director, Salesforce.com Foundation.

“Salesforce.com has helped us to bridge gaps in information and align our business goals accordingly,” Mr. Ramesh Ramanathan, chairman, Janalakshmi Financial Services, a financial institution servicing the microfinance needs of the urban poor in India. “We selected Salesforce CRM because it met with our criteria of sound technology and was easy to use. “

The 1/1/1 model ensures that as the salesforce.com business grows in countries such as India, so will the contribution to the local community.
