Sandra Bullock won her first Academy award for her role of a feisty foster mother, who changes the life of a troubled African-American teenager in 'The Blind Side', based on a true story.
The 45-year-old actress beat off comepition from veteran actress like Meryl Streep (Julie & Julia, Dame Helen Mirren (The Last Station) and newcomers Carey Mulligan (An Education), Gabourey Sidibe (Precious).
The actress, who is better known for her romantic comedies like 'Miss Congeniality' and 'The Proposal', was the front-runner for the statuette after sweeping of the pre-Oscars awards including the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards.
