Press Trust of India / New Delhi Aug 09, 2010, 19:29 IST

Japanese consumer electronics firm Sansui today said it will foray into the mobile handset segment by the end of this year as part of plans to double its overall turnover to Rs 2,000 crore by 2011.

The company, whose products are currently being marketed by consumer durables firm Videocon, said it will invest Rs 40 crore on promotional activities in the next six months and will also enhance its existing products range this year.

"Through a multi-pronged strategy of introducing new products, entry into new business divisions, opening of customer care centres and schemes, Sansui is targeting a turnover of Rs 2,000 crore by the end of 2011," the company said in a statement.

The firm said it will also enter the mobile handset business, with plans to launch 10 models by end of 2010.

The company has launched a range of LCDs and slim TVs and DVD players for the Indian market. It plans to launch its Blue-Ray DVD player range by the end of this year.

"We have launched our new range of Hard Rock LCDs and with this we plan to target a 5 per cent share in the Indian LCD market by the end of the current financial year," Sansui Chief Marketing Officer Jaideep Rathore said.

To achieve the target, the company said it is also strengthening its distribution network.

"We have also put in place direct distribution network under which each district would be supported by an independent dealer. This would reduce distributor dependency, especially in rural markets," Rathore said.
