| Saran to attend Major Economies Forum meet on Climate Change |

Special Envoy to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, Shyam Saran will lead the Indian delegation to Major Economies Forum meet on Climate Change to be held later this week here.
The first meeting since the leaders of the Major Economies met in L'Aquila, Italy on July 9, the two-day meet would be chaired by US Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economic Affairs Michael Froman.
Special US Envoy for Climate Change Todd Stern would lead the American delegation for the meeting to be held at the Foggy Bottom headquarters of the State Department on September 17 and 18.
Other members of the Indian delegation include Rajiv Mishra Joint Secretary (UN), Ministry of External Affairs; R R Rashmi Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Forests; and Ajay Mathur Director General of Bureau of Energy Efficiency.
Set up by the US President Barack Obama, on March 28, the Forum is intended to facilitate a candid dialogue among major developed and developing economies and help generate the political leadership necessary to achieve a successful outcome at the December UN climate change conference in Copenhagen.
The Forum also aims at advancing the exploration of concrete initiatives and joint ventures that increase the supply of clean energy while cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
The 17 major economies participating in the Major Economies Forum are: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the European Union, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Britain, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, and the US.
Denmark, as the President of the December 2009 Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, and the United Nations have also been invited to participate in this dialogue.
