Satyam wins 15 contracts in Jan; just one terminated
BS Reporter / Hyderabad Feb 03, 2009, 13:26 IST

There is some good news from the beleaguered Satyam Computer Services. The scam-tainted IT major has got 15 new contracts last month.

According to a company spokesperson, Satyam got three contracts from the US - one in the insurance sector, one in the pharmaceutical sector and a contract extension from an existing technology client.

Similarly, there were two account wins in the Europe - one in chemicals manufacturing and the other in services business.

This apart, it has bagged 10 other contracts from the rest of the world, including renewals in Japan, Africa, West Asia, India, Asia-Pacific, Australia and New Zealand.

The company also informed its employees that one of its key customers in the aviation industry has recently renewed its infrastructure services contract. The company would continue to provide its services in the web infrastructure support area through a 50-member onsite-offshore mix.

Satyam also stated that one of the global leaders in the networking space of consumers and small business users awarded a contract last week.

Spanning six months, the project would be executed through a 20 member onsite and offshore team.

Despite the crisis, the company saw just one client -- US-based State Farm Insurance -- terminating its contract in January, the spokesperson noted.

Meanwhile, the six-member government appointed board of Satyam would be meeting here on Wednesday. "Announcement relating to critical leadership appointments is expected to be made at the board meeting," the company's internal newsletter stated.

Satyam's board is expected to announce the appointment of a new chief executive officer. It is also expected to discuss a transition plan in the light of the Securities and Exchange Board of India agreeing to amend the takeover code.
