Season of losses
Our Commodities Bureau / Kolkata June 04,2004
The stocks of companies engaged in gems and jewellery fared badly in the period from March to June on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). There was some price rise mid-way but shares slumped at the end of the period.
 
The Classic Diamonds share fell from Rs 77.80 on March 1, to today’s close of Rs 69.20, down 11.05 per cent on the Bombay Stock exchange (BSE).
 
Golkunda Diamonds & Jewellery slipped from Rs 4.00 to Rs 3.06.
 
Su-Raj Diamonds moved from Rs 19.39 to Rs 18.50, down 4.5 per cent.
 
Suashish Diamonds declined from Rs 43 to Rs 30 and Zodiac from Rs 11.99 to Rs 10.50, a fall of 12.42 per cent.
 
Parekh Platinum lost ground, from Rs 8.27 to Rs 6.85, down 17.17 per cent, and Goldiam International fell from Rs 47.55 to Rs 41.60, a fall of 12.51 per cent.
 
Shyam Star Gems lost value from Rs 2.04 to Rs 1.65 down by 23.63 per cent.
 
Rajesh Exports eased from Rs 145.35 to Rs 129.19, down 11.11 per cent and Vaibhav Gems from Rs 49.75 to Rs 40.75, down 18.09 per cent.
 
SB & T International gained from Rs 45.10 to Rs 39.60.
 
Shrenuj & Co was steady at Rs 36.25 through the three months.
 
Flawless Diamond on the contrary, witnessed a 5 per cent rise from Rs 4.00 to Rs 4.20.
