Security has been beefed up at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) here following an intelligence alert that terrorists might strike at airports.
“RGIA is equipped with hi-tech electronic monitoring systems, which are manned by the CISF personnel round the clock. The Cyberabad Police has beefed up security arrangements on the landside, including the main access road. We are providing all necessary cooperation and assistance to both the CISF and the police, inside and around the airport. We are also supplementing their efforts by deploying our in-house ‘Raxa’ Security teams on the landside,” Viswanath Attaluri, chief commercial officer of GMR Hyderabad International Airport, stated.
Attaluri said there was about 10 per cent decline in the domestic traffic from RGIA after the terrorist attacks on Mumbai. The normal daily domestic traffic from RGIA is between 12,000 and 13,000, which has now declined by 1,000-1,400. The international traffic, however, remains at the same level at about 3,000 per day.
According to Attaluri, the Hyderabad-Mumbai sector has witnessed a steeper decline of about 20 per cent after the terrorist attacks. During the normal times, the daily traffic on this route used to be 1,200-1,400.
