Sensex ends down 23pts

The Sensex has finally ended (provisional) at 14,623, down 23 points.

The Sensex continues to display high volatility following the Economic Survey. It is now down 58 points at 14,587.

The index touched a high of 14,764 and a low of 14,470.

Tata Motors and BHEL have shed 3% each at Rs 290 and Rs 2,153, respectively. Maruti Suzuki and Bharti Airtel have dropped 2.5% each to Rs 1,042 and Rs 803, respectively.

Reliance Communications, Larsen & Toubro, SBI, HDFC Bank, Hindustan Unilever, TCS, Infosys and Hero Honda have slipped 1-2% each.

On the other hand, ONGC has surged over 6% to Rs 1,119 on hopes of a lesser subsidy burden. Tata Steel and Sterlite have added 3.5% each to Rs 409 and Rs 632, respectively.

Sun Pharma, Grasim, NTPC, HDFC, Hindlaco and Reliance Infrastructure have added 1-2% each.

The market breadth continues to be positive. Out of 2,590 stocks traded, 1,347 have advanced while 1,159 have declined.
