Sensex ends down 423pts

The Sensex has ended (provisional) at 17,051, down 423 points. The NSE Nifty has closed (provisional) at 5,093, down 129 points. _______________________________________________

The Sensex is down 372 points at 17,102. The Nifty is at 5,108 - down 114 points.

Markets have dropped sharply as construction giant. Larsen & Toubro reported dissapointing Q3 numbers. The Sensex dropped to a low of 17,042.

The index has now recovered marginally at 17,106 - down 368 points.

The Nifty has slumped 116 points to 5,105.

All sectoral indices are in red. The BSE capital goods index has dropped 4% to 13,654. Power, PSU healthcare and metal indices are also down over 2% each.

Larsen & Toubro has crashed 6% to Rs 1,538 following a drop of ..% in the Q3 net. Tata Power has shed 5% to Rs 1,349.

HDFC and Sterlite have dropped 3% each to Rs 2,440 and Rs 825, respectively. ICICI Bank, Tata Motors, Bharti Airtel, BHEL and HDFC Bank slipped over 2% each.

Other stocks which are in red are Reliance Infrastructure, Hindalco, NTPC, Reliance, ONGC and DLF.

The BSE market breadth is extremely negative. out of 2,925 stocks traded 2,351 have declined while 525 have advanced.
