Sensex near day's high, up 206pts

SensexThe Sensex surged to touch a high of 14,570, up 224 points. It is now up 206 points at 14,552.

Sterlite has surged 5.5% to Rs 608. ICICI Bank has rallied 4.5% to Rs 729.

Larsen & Toubro has gained 4% at Rs 1,587. BHEL, Reliance, Hindalco and Reliance Communications have added 2.5% each to Rs 2,190, Rs 2,004, Rs 86 and Rs 307, respectively.

DLF, Infosys, Maruti Suzuki, ACC, Tata Power, Hindustan Unilever, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank and Wipro are up around 1% each.

Meanwhile, Sun Pharma has plunged 12% to Rs 1,142. Tata Steel has shed 3% to Rs 387.

Ranbaxy has slipped 2% to Rs 261. Mahindra & Mahindra and ONGC have dropped 1% each.

The market breadth continues to be positive. Out of 2,502 stocks traded 1,467 have advanced while 953 have declined.
