Sensex surges 340pts on strong global cues

SensexThe Sensex today opened 41 points higher at 15,168 following positive cues from the Asian markets. Aggressive buying helped the index to touch day's high of 15,581 - up 454 points from its previous close.

In the last trading session, the index witnessed profit booking in realty stocks (down 1.1%) and finally ended at 15,467, up 340 points.

The BSE Power and Capital Goods were up around 3.5% each at 3,069 and 13,467, respectively.

The Consumer Durables,  Health Care, Bankex, Metal, FMCG, Oil & Gas, Auto and IT moved in the range of 1-2.7% each.

The market breadth turned negative towards the end - out of 2,831 shares traded, 1,218 advanced, 1,553 declined and 60 were unchanged today.

INDEX MOVERS...

Tata Power zoomed 6.4% to Rs 1,214 and Reliance Infrastrutures soared 6% to Rs 1,218.

HDFC Bank, Ranbaxy, ACC and Reliance Communications advanced around 5.5% to Rs 1,494, Rs 298, Rs 897 and Rs 350, respectively.

BHEL advanced 4.6% to Rs 2,353.

Larsen & Toubro, Mahindra & Mahindra, Hindalco, Hindustan Unilever, Grasim, NTPC, ONGC, Bharti Airtel, ITC, Reliance, Wipro, Maruti and ICICI Bank were up 1-4% each.

...AND THE SHAKERS

Tata Motors and DLF slipped 2% each to Rs 361 and Rs 395, respectively.

OTHER PROMINENT GAINERS...

Lanco Infrastructures zoomed 14.52% to Rs 443. India Cement, LIC Housing Finance, Videocon, IVRCL, Educomp Solutions, Bharat Forge, Sintex Industries, Punj Llyod,  Jindal Steel, Kotak Bank and Max India gained 5.5-11% each.

...AND THE LOSERS

HDIL slipped 6% to Rs 267. Aban Offshore, MMTC, Rei Agro, Jai Corporation, Indiabulls Real Estate, Gujarat NRE Coke, JP Hydropower, Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers, Godrej Industries, Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation and GTL Infrastructure dropped 3-5% each.

VALUE & VOLUME TOPPER

Tech Mahindra topped the volumes chart with turnover of Rs 307.14 crore. It was followed by Unitech (Rs 237.43 crore), Suzlon (Rs 212.39 crore), Reliance (Rs 207.31 crore) and Aban Offshore (Rs 203.58 crore).

Unitech topped the volumes chart with trades of 26.10 million. It was followed by Reliance Natural Resources (16.91 million), Suzlon (16.86 million), Ispat (15 million) and JP Hydropwer (14.64 million).
