The Sensex opened 70 points higher at 9,163, and has since gathered strength and is now up 155 points at 9,248.

Jaiprakash Associates has surged 4% to Rs 58. TCS has rallied 3.5% to Rs 577.

HDFC Bank, Reliance Infrastructure, Satyam and Larsen & Toubro have moved up 2.7% each to Rs 946, Rs 516, Rs 250 and Rs 746, respectively.

Reliance Communications and Reliance have gained over 2.5% each at Rs 201 and Rs 1,160, respectively.

Maruti, however, has slipped 1.7% to Rs 527.
