Shristi`s township to offer big city perks
Debjoy Sengupta / Asansol April 08, 2005
Bengal Shristi, a Srei Group company, appears to have seized the lead in the infrastructure and housing market outside Kolkata with its mega integrated township at Kanyapur in Asansol.

The facility is spread over an area of approximately 75 acres.

This would be the first township with modern facilities to be developed outside Kolkata in West Bengal by a private party.

“Keeping in mind the high pollution level of the industrial area of Asansol, the township will have nearly 60 per cent of green area to provide pollution free atmosphere,” top company sources told Business Standard.

The Asansol Township will be a town within a town and will give the residents facilities that were not available to residents of the town.

Facilities would include all big-city facilities like a shopping mall, a multiplex and a sports club.

This township envisages creation of housing for more than 4,000 families in a mix of plotted land, houses and group housing structures.

Master planning, detailed design and engineering of this township is being undertaken by Sembcorp Infrastructure, the Singapore government owned architect and structural consultant.

Besides housing, the township would also be having several types of commercial formats, like an entertainment complex and institutional areas.

The township has been planned to have a large green space with parks, ponds, river and the natural green and the natural elements of the entire area would be maintained.

A modern sports club, spread over five acres, would also be part of the township and offer several sporting options such as tennis.

“It is our belief that this township shall become a model of urban town planning and unique construction of human habitation in West Bengal outside of Kolkata,” officials of the company claimed.

The proposed plan would have small plots christened Ahiri, housing apartments for MIG under the Poorvi brand and for high income group housing branded Saveri.

The commercial retail units, the clubhouse named Darbari, a community hall, parks, a central park and a cineplex would be shared.

It would also have a high-rise residential unit as twin towers both christened Shree as well as premium bungalows branded Brindabani and medium rise residential buildings.

The township will have built-in facilities for solid waste management scheme to separate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste at source, besides a rain water harvesting system for optimising use of scarce ground water resources.

To attract small town buyers, the company has primised to pay a penalty fee to customers in case it failed to hand over plots and flats on the delivery date.
