The Small Industries Development Bank of India (Sidbi) and private infrastructure development firm IL&FS will impart training to consultants for the local leather industry.
“We have prepared a team of fresh engineering graduates who hail from Kanpur or are interested in working here for assessment and analysis of various problems faced by the small leather entrepreneurs. These engineers will be assisted by a committee of experienced and reputed management consultants from city and outside,” said IL&FS regional manager Jayant Prakash .
He said over 150 small and medium leather manufacturers in the city were facing imminent closure due to mass cancellation of export orders from European countries. Moreover, lack of proper industrial expertise has made the situation worse.
The engineers will be provided short-term training in basic consultancy, leather industry specific consultancy, investment banking and drafting proposals.
The duration of the training programme is one-year and will be conducted by the Kanpur Productivity Council and private consultancy firm Sarvey International. The training expense will be borne jointly by the bank and industrialists, who need to pay only 15 percent of the charge.
