Significant gains for Smart Portfolios

As the markets cheered the Budget, Smart Portfolios too raked in profits during the week. In the week under review, Smart Portfolios benchmark net worth appreciated by 3.44 per cent to Rs 11.12 lakh from Rs 10.75 lakh in the preceding week. Similarly, fund managers too saw their portfolio value rise in the range of 3-5 per cent each.

An investment of Rs 10 lakh at the start of Smart Portfolios on September 1, 2009, is valued at Rs 11.12 lakh, up 11.20 per cent in the last six months. Ajay Parmar’s net worth has soared by 26.37 per cent to Rs 12.64 lakh. Amar Ambani’s portfolio value has surged by 27.38 per cent to Rs 12.74 lakh. Phani Sekhar, who joined in two weeks later, has seen his net worth move up by 9.3 per cent to Rs 10.93 lakh. Finally, Vinay Khattar, who overtook Praveen Panjwani’s portfolio, has seen a rise of 6.04 per cent.

Of the four fund managers, Phani Sekhar remained on the sidelines while the others collectively bought shares worth Rs 3.28 lakh. However, Amar Ambani was a net seller of stocks worth Rs 47,814.

Phani Sekhar remained on the sidelines for the second straight week. His net worth, however, grew by 4.89 per cent. His total investments are valued at Rs 10.91 lakh, and he holds just Rs 2,044 in cash. Sekhar has 15 stocks in his portfolio, of which 10 are trading above his cost price. eClerx and Esab India are the major gainers in his portfolio, while Reliance Infrastructure and Bharti Airtel are the major losers.

Ajay Parmar’s net worth rose by 4.38 per cent in the week under review. He executed just two trades, both on the buy side. His purchases totaled Rs 1.15 lakh, and he added Bhushan Steel and Sabero Organosys to his portfolio. Parmar now has 13 stocks in his portfolio, of which 10 are trading above his cost price. Sesa Goa and Rallis India are the top gainers, while OCL India is the worst performer. His total investments are valued at Rs 8.64 lakh and he holds Rs 4 lakh in cash.

Amar Ambani executed 20 trades last week, nine on the buy side. While his gross purchases stood at Rs 4.09 lakh, his gross sales amounted to Rs 4.56 lakh. His net worth rose by 4.51 per cent, and his total investments are valued at Rs 7.65 lakh.

His fresh purchases are Jet Airways, Mastek, Hikal, Tata Metaliks, Omax Autos, Piramal Healthcare and Zuari Industries. He has exited from Tata Coffee, Dolphin Offshore, Infotech Enterprises, RECL, Titan, Godrej Industries, Rallis India, National Aluminium, Inox Leisure and Amtek India. Ambani now has 15 stocks in his portfolio, and all are trading above his purchase price. TVS Motors and Jet Airways are the leading gainers. He still holds Rs 5.09 lakh in cash.

His total investments are valued at Rs 6.94 lakh, and he holds cash of Rs 3.67 lakh.
