| SMOT, a Chennai-based B-school, has launched its pan-India post graduate programme in management ( PGPM). Currently, it has a capacity of 120 seats each at its Chennai and Hyderabad campuses.

| SMOT plans to spread its wings to Mumbai and Bangalore in the future. The business school’s basic aim is to offer super-speciality management tracks.

| R Narasimhan, director, SMOT, says: "A number of recent surveys have proved that 40 per cent of the management graduates shift jobs in their fourth month of service and 70 per cent leave it within a year. This is primarily because of they do not fit the job description."

| He adds: "Super-speciality management tracks have been worked out in the areas of marketing, finance, operations and human resources. We are developing specially worked out curiculla to control attrition rates. For instance, a student with skills in HR is asked to look after operations, and those with marketing expertise are told to manage finance. The mismatch is a major problem in corporate India."

| SMOT's PGPM course lasts 16 months—four semesters of four months each. The course fee is Rs 4.3 lakh. SMOT also has provisions for offering scholarships to 50 per cent of its students. The programme starts from September 2007 and ends in January 2009. It promises 100 per cent placement for its students countrywide.

| SMOT has tied up with the Canadian Association of Management Consultants (CAMC) to get expertise, design and evaluate the management consulting domain track. |
