University of Chicago's Booth School of Business (SOM) Dean, Edward Snyder will take over as the Dean of Yale School of Management in July 2011.
Snyder, a George Shultz Professor of Economics at the Booth School, had last month announced his decision to step down as Booth dean from June 30, 2010.
Following a year's leave, during which Snyder has said he would write about anti-trust and competition policy and might travel to India and China, would assume the Deanship of Yale School of Management in July 2011.
Yale President Richard Levin said, "Snyder looks forward to maintaining the school's tradition of preparing students for leadership in business and society by raising their awareness of the context in which business operates. He is also committed to advancing the curricular innovations begun by the SOM faculty three years ago".
Regarded as the most successful business school dean in the country, Snyder has served as Dean of Chicago Booth since 2001.
Under his leadership, the school almost doubled its number of endowed professorships and more than tripled its scholarship assistance to students.
In 2008, Snyder announced a $300 million gift from Chicago alumnus David Booth and his family, which was the largest donation in the history of the University of Chicago and the largest gift to any business school in the world.
In recognition of this gift, the school was renamed in Booth's honour.
