| Spa business soars in Ahmedabad with customised packages |

Spa treatments—a relatively new concept in Ahmedabad, seems to have picked up in recent years with the all strata of the society, especially with the advent of the affordable spas and short rejuvenating packages.
As if understanding the pysche of the average Amdavadi customer, spas and salons are customising their packages to suit the spa enthusiasts in the city. While some are introducing special membership programs, others, in order to lure the non-users of spa therapies, spas and salons in Ahmedabad are offering cheaper schemes in attractive packages this summer.
Take for instance, Neesa Group's Orient Spa, which has a scheme to suit all pockets. "National and international trends have forced customers to try the spa services and thus the same has let to the demand in Ahmedabad. Obviously as a society we have grown more aware and conscious about health and wellness. Moreover, affordable spas are coming up as even expensive 5-star spas offer very affordable short treatments now. At Orient Spa, we have about 10 odd value schemes to suit every pocket and user. Another prevalant trend is that spas are now introducing more result oriented treatments than the previous trend of offering extremely pampering treatments with less benefits. Be it facials, scrubs or massages, the focus is on result," says Sanjana Gupta, Business Head, Orient Spa Pvt. Ltd.
Orient has also launched a Special Membership Program, promoted as Orient Spa Elite Program Platinum which offers benefits of more than Rs 55000 by paying just Rs.19500, and includes free vacationing and dining benefits, free spa use benefits, entire year of free pool use and more at all Cambay properties and Orient Spa properties across India.Orient Spa, which has more than 60 per cent male customers, is planning to start its spa parties segment soon. "Quite a few spas are now focusing on stress related therapies by even creating parties like teen spa parties or kitty parties with short spa. We are also introducing Spa based recreation pool at Cambay Grand in a couple of months, which will be fun and relaxing to beat the heat and stress. This will be first of its kind in Ahmedabad," Gupta added.
The total size of health, beauty an spa business is estimated to be around Rs. 20 crore per annum as of now, which likely to reach Rs. 50 crore by 2012 in the city alone, says Sapna Begani, director of Anantaa Wellness, which is celebrating its first anniversary by offering special packages like posture management, intensive fat loss, body toning, athletic performance enhancement, post pregnancy management and make-over packages.
According to Begani, short packages are increasingly becoming popular in Ahmedabad. "These days, people have become more conscious about their look and lifestyle disease as well. As a result, remedies for weight loss, shaping of the body and enhancing stamina are high on demand. Short rejuvenating packages offering herbal treatment and international therapy are gaining popularity, as one can spare time for the same in quick intervals and they are also pocket-friendly," she says.
Most spas, in a bid to attract users and non-users, have started to throw in a few additional services like jacuzzi or a face massage to their existing packages to give it a value-for-money feel. "It usually depends on the luxury one wants at a spa but most spas charge somewhere between Rs 1000-Rs 5000 for an hour's therapy, which is quite affordable for the modern customer bogged down by the pressures of the urban life and its hectic schedules," says Riddhi Kumar, manager at Lambency Chandan Sparsh Spa.
The rates for Lambency Chandan Sparsh's skin and body spa start from Rs 999 to Rs 2499.
Similarly, Orchid Spa Salon is offering a spa sitting free for customers who will avail of three packages of its hair spa. "The demand for spa is quite high these days. We usually get 8-10 walk-ins on a daily basis, especially during the onset of summer," says Bharti Tanna, director, Orchid Spa Salon.
Gupta feels the future of spas in Ahmedabad will flourish with more memberships and affordable schemes. "Spas will flourish in Ahmedabad with introduction of many more memberships and cheaper schemes to convert non users to users. Besides, salons will start offering spa treatments due to demand from existing customers.
With people becoming more conscious about their looks and lifestyle diseases, the spa business is here to stay in Ahmedabad. "Off-late, people in the city have become more health conscious and are taking preventive measure to avoid lifestyle diseases. Over last two years, number of stand-alone spas as well as attached to hospitality centers offering comprehensive packages has also increase significantly. Considering this, Ahmedabad is set to become a major center for the spa business," says Begani.
