SREI Sahaj e-Village Limited, a subsidiary of the Kolkata-based Srei Infrastructure Finance Limited has said that it will create 70,000 jobs in rural India by the end of 2010 through the roll out of its Common Services Centres (CSCs).
The company has planned to launch a new job portal called www.chaakri.in through which all the job aspirants can freely register their names, said Ashutosh Srivastava, chief marketing officer of Srei Sahaj e-Village Limited.
The company will offer skill upgradation facilities to all the registered youths through its CSCs across the country including more than 2000 common service centres already operational in Orissa. For this skill enhancement programme, SREI Sahaj has tied up with the Union Ministry of Rural Development.
“The basic objective is to increase employable opportunities in rural India and SREI Sahaj has a robust model of CSCs which can extend these facilities to the bottom level”, said Basant Sinha, the company's chief operating officer.
In the first phase, the company would invest Rs 300 crore on setting up over 27,000 CSCs across the county including 3,648 centres in Orissa. These centres would cater to 2.87 million rural people in the country.
All these centres which are aimed at bridging the urban-rural digital divide through creation of a robust IT infrastructure at the village level are expected to be operational by March 2010. In the second phase, SREI Sahaj Village would invest Rs 150 crore on providing services to the rural citizens at these CSCs while Rs 550 crore would be invested in the third phase in setting up rural business hubs.
Meanwhile, the company has entered into a strategic tie up with State Bank of India (SBI) to provide banking correspondent facilities at its select CSCs.
