Starwood Hotels & Resorts to open 14 hotels in India by 2011
Press Trust of India / New Delhi Jun 24, 2009, 15:49 IST

International hospitality chain Starwood Hotels & Resorts plans to open 14 new hotels in India by 2011 under three brands — Aloft, Westin and Sheraton.

"We are going to open 14 new hotels in India with a total inventory of around 2,500 rooms in the country by 2011," Starwood Hotels & Resorts Regional Vice-President (India, Bangladesh and Maldives) Don Elliot told reporters here.

He said that among 14 new hotels, five would be opened under its newly created Aloft brand and will be operated on franchise-based management. Six hotels would be Westin and the remaining three would be Sheraton, which would be managed by the company.

The company has 936 hotels in over 100 countries under nine brands — St Regis, The Luxury Collection, W, Le Meridien, Sheraton, Westin, Four Points by Sheraton, Aloft and Element.

In India, it has 21 hotels with an inventory of 5,052 rooms which include Le Meridien (eight), The Luxury Collection (seven), Sheraton (four), Westin (one) and Four Points by Sheraton (one).

Elliot said the company is also looking at bringing the St Regis and W brands to India.

"We are looking at partners bringing these brands to India. Talks are going on with some developers and we will introduce them when we get the right partner in the right city," Elliot said, without giving further details.
