State approves projects worth Rs 16,312 cr

The State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA) in its meeting today approved seven projects worth Rs 16312 crore in sectors like aluminium, energy and metal having employment potential for 3525 persons.

Of these, two projects worth Rs 14,275 crore were referred to the High Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) headed by the chief minister Naveen Patnaik for vetting.

Hemanta Sharma, managing director, Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Orissa Ltd (Ipicol) said, two proposals were referred to HLCA as the proposed investment exceeded Rs 1000 crore each.

The two projects are the Rs 7988 crore proposal of JR Powergen Private Ltd to set up a 1980 Mw power plant at Kishorenagar near Angul and Rs 6287 crore proposal of BRG Energy Systems Ltd to set up a 1320 Mw power plant at Bhapur in Nayagarh district.

He said, J R Powergen Private Ltd will provide direct employment to 1290 persons and BRG Energy Systems is expected to employ 1232 persons directly. The SLSWCA cleared the Hindalco Industries’ plan to invest Rs 850 crore for setting up of an aluminium rolling mill to manufacture high quality aluminium flat rolled products (FRP). The unit will come up at Hirakud and is likely to provide direct employment to 250 persons.

Similarly, Rashmi Cements Ltd will set up a 2 lakh tonne per annum ferro manganese unit with a 50 Mw Captive Power Plant at Haridaspur in Jajpur district. The project envisages an investment of Rs 300 crore and will provide employment to 240 persons.

The other approved projects included Dhanjai Industries’ plan to set up 40,000 tonne per annum ferro alloys plant at Choudwar with an investment of Rs 180 crore and employ 120 people directly.

Sharma said, the Kaushal Ferro Metals’s proposal for setting up a dual-line re-rolling mill at village Podabahal in Sundergarh district at an investment of Rs 82 crore was cleared today. The proposed mill will have a capacity of 2 lakh tonne per annum and is expected to provide employment to 120 persons. Besides, SLSWCA gave its nod to the proposal of Bhubaneswar Power Private Ltd. (BPPL) to set up 135a coal based captive power plant (CPP) at Anantapur in Athagarh Tehsil in Cuttack district. The project, having potential to employ 273 persons, envisaged investment of Rs 625 crore.
