The Orissa government will provide three acres of land for the city campus of National Institute of Science and Research (NISER) besides allotting 300 acres of land at Jatni, about 15 km from the city, for the full-fledged campus of the institute. This was announced here by the state chief minister, Naveen Patnaik at the inauguration of the new building of NISER-Bhubaneswar within the premises of the city-based Institute of Physics.
The state government will also provide 30 government quarters for the students of NISER and another 14 quarters for the institute’s faculty, said Patnaik.
NISER will emerge as a prominent centre for science education and research in the state and the state government is committed to provide external infrastructure for the institute like roads, electricity and water.
He pointed out that his government has taken many steps for the progress of higher education adding apart from IIT and International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), two more engineering colleges were going to be set up at Berhampur and Bhawanipatna.
Speaking on the occasion, TK Chandrasekhar said, “The academic session of NISER-Bhubaneswar began from the campus of Institute of Physics in September 2007. We are going to introduce PHD programmes at NISER-Bhubaneswar soon. The institute is poised to emerge as a reputed institute in the field of science education and research.”
It may be noted that NISER-Bhubaneswar is currently operating out of the campus of Institute of Physics in the city. The full-fledged campus of National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar is expected to be operational by the end of 2013.
