On the occasion of its 10th Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantations (HSCT), Sterling hospitals, Ahmedabad has launched a facility for bone marrow transplantation and blood diseases.
HSCT is the transplantation of blood stem cells derived from the bone marrow or blood. It is a medical procedure in the fields of hematology and oncology, most often performed for people with diseases of the blood, bone marrow, or certain types of cancer.
"HSCT is used to treat many conditions. Some of the common acquired conditions are Leukemias, Lymphomas, Myelomas, Aplastic Anemias , beta thalassemia major," said Dr. Uday R. Deotare, a specialist in bone marrow transplant, and head of the bone marrow department at Sterling Hospitals.
“Prognosis in Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) varies widely dependent upon disease type, stage, stem cell source, HLA-matched status (for allogeneic HCST) and conditioning regimen. A transplant offers a chance for cure or long-term remission if the inherent complications of graft versus host disease, immuno-suppressive treatments and the spectrum of opportunistic infections can be survived,” Dr Deotare explained further.
Sterling Hospitals, Ahmedabad is engaged in providing high quality secondary and tertiary medical and surgical care in a host of critical specialties.
